One of New Zealand's best Pinot Noir wines. This stylish drop showcases the potential of Marlborough Pinot, as well as the sheer experience of these old hands in the region. Though no fruit bomb, it has generous lushness of fruit and a fine, supple texture. Beautiful complexity and harmony are partly the result of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, with the use of indigenous yeast. This is world class wine for an ordinary price. Let this Dog Point Point grace your cellar, or enjoy it right now.

Its Origins

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.

What The Critics Say

98/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Profoundly rich yet elegant Pinot Noir with real power and a lovely aroma of violets and cherries. Subtle fruit sweetness is interwoven with fine, ripe and relatively gentle tannins providing structure while helping promote a sumptuous texture. Very impressive wine indeed. 29 APR 2015." Drink 2015 - 2022

96/100 Huon Hooke

"Very deep red/purple hue. The bouquet is impressive and loaded with rich, ripe, black cherry fruit, the palate likewise rich and concentrated, full-bodied and sweetly-fruited, but it's all balanced by good tannins and excellent structure. A glorious wine, very Burgundy-like and a far cry from the pale, delicate style of some southern Australian pinots. It should richly reward cellaring. 26 AUG 2014." Drink 2017 - 2027

19+/20 Raymond Chan

"Dark red colour with purple hues. The nose is rich with deep aromas of ripe dark cherry and berry fruit, along with nuances of dark plums, spices and herbs, unfolding gentle red perfumes, the initial shyness blossoming with aeration. The fruit is sweetly succulent and juicy, but is balanced by plenty of extraction. This has power with the flesh and grip, the brightness and vibrancy of the fruit emerging as the feature. This is rich, and firmly structured, and still very youthful, and has the potential to develop very well. 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in new and seasoned French oak. 19.0+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $42.00."
