Chardonnay
Its Origins
Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy - both of whom were key players in establishing the quality of Marlborough's Cloudy Bay Vineyard. Their philosophy is total involvement from the vineyard through the winemaking process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines. Fruit for their wines is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Reasonably weighty Chardonnay with stone fruit/white peach/nectarine, cedar and hazelnut flavours. The wine has a perfect balance of subtle fruit sweetness and lively acidity giving a little tension and helping drive a lengthy finish. Youthful Chardonnay with good potential 29/5/2014."

"Full light golden colour. The nose is very full and voluminous with a gentle density of white stonefruits and citrus fruits complexed by gunflint lees and minerally reduction, the aromatics balanced and interwoven with harmony. Concentrated and tightly bound on palate, this has intensity of flavour, the fruit and complexing oak and flinty inputs in balance and integrated. The palate has drive and great acid cut, lending freshness and finesse. This will develop well with its elegance, intensity, power and cut. 14.0% alc. and 0.6 g//L RS, 18 months in 15% new French oak. 19.0-/20 Oct 2014 RRP $35.00 Bright, light golden-green hued straw-yellow colour. The bouquet is elegant and exudes finesse with seamlessly interwoven aromas of white stonefruits, gunflint reduction and toasted nuts, all in balance and proportion. Full-bodied, concentrated and intense flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruit are the feature on palate, with complexing elements of minerals, flint and toasty nuances. The flavours are beautifully integrated, forming a deep, smooth-flowing core with richness and near creamy textures, expressed with stylish restraint. The mouthfeel has vitality and acid tension to balance, and the wine carries the flavours to a very long and sustained finish with stonefruit and mineral notes. This is a smooth, seamless and refined Chardonnay with concentration and flinty complexity. Fruit cropped at 5 tonnes per hectare, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 15% new French oak with very little batonnage, but 100% MLF. 19.0-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $35.00."
