Reduced to clear- out it goes. Limited stock. A rich beauty, this is the flagship red from star producer Di Majo Norante. From the border lands of Molise and Abruzzo, and near the Aglianico grape's home in Campagnia, comes this rich and dark blend of mostly Montepulciano with a little Aglianico added for savoury complexity. Voluptuousness meets rustic charm meets sheer charisma, in this densely fruited and deeply flavoured delight from Southern Italy. Volumes are small so grab some!

Overview

Grape

Montepulciano, Aglianico

Its Origins

Founded in 1968, the Di Majo estate cultivates more than 200 acres under vine. In order to ensure consistent, high-quality production for all the estate’s wines, Alessio Di Majo hired renowned oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as a consultant. In addition to producing quality wine at an outstanding value, the Di Majo family is dedicated to practicing environmentally sound agriculture. The Di Majo Norante winery sits on the estate of the Marquis Norante of Santa Cristina in the region of Molise, along the Adriatic Sea between Puglia and Abruzzo. The cultivation of vines in this area dates back to 500 BC, when the region was inhabited by two pre-Roman civilizations, the Sanniti and the Osci. The estate has been dedicated to growing vines since the 1800s. In the 1960s a modern cantina was constructed and vines were replanted in the Ramitello area.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

"Di Majo Norante's top shelf wine is based on the Montepulciano grape. In truth, the 2012 Molise Rosso Riserva Don Luigi offer less varietal character, replacing it instead with enormous power and depth. This wine stands tall and proud with thick lines of dark berry fruit, dried blackberry, grilled herb and moist chewing tobacco. Di Majo Norante always makes wines with distinctive character and this edition of the massive, but beautiful Don Luigi is no exception...Of all the wineries in Molise, none stands taller than Di Majo Norante in terms of international visibility. Celebrated enologist Riccardo Cotarella helped to grow this brand thanks to his sophisticated and international style of winemaking. Molise wines owe much to this dynamic Alessio Di Majo and Riccardo Cotarella team. Today, the winery continues in that path to excellence and is an especially interesting option for those looking for exciting value wines from southern Italy." Drink 2015 - 2025
