A classic Riserva Brunello from one of Montalcino's oldest producers, the Lisini is a treasure. Superbly managed vineyards at high altitude of 350-450 metres allow beautifully ripe and fuller-bodied Sangiovese to retain fresh acidity and fine structure. This utterly classical vehicle delivers the tantalising paradox of the best Brunello: absolute fruit delicacy and nuanced floral/herbal 'prettiness', framed nonetheless by an age-worthy structure of huge impact and energy. A must have for lovers of Brunello and top class Sangiovese.

Its Origins

Lisini is one of Montalcino's oldest wine estates. The Clementi family fought alongside the Medicis in their conquest of Montalcino, for which Capt. Silvio Clementi was rewarded with the Pecci palace in Montalcino, as well as buying another propriety in Sant’Angelo in Colle. Today, signor Filippo Paoletti is responsible for making the five traditional wines, using cement and large oak casks. With Lodovico’s Lisini's death in 1950, his daughter Elina took over, believing in the estate’s potential and initiating the very first bottling until her death in 2009. The Lisini were among the founding fathers of the first Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio in 1963; with Elina becoming one of its Presidents. The current generation of Lisini - Carlo, Lorenzo and Lodovica - continue to uphold the family tradition.

What The Critics Say

94+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

“I have not seen a Riserva from Lisini for a while, so this wine comes as a pleasant surprise. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva takes us back to one of the warmest vintages in recent memory. However, this wine holds nicely with plenty of lush primary fruit to keep it smelling and tasting younger than its years. Dark cherry and dried blackberry rise to the top. Soon to follow are layers of spice and sweet tobacco. The mouthfeel is thickly layered but velvety smooth all the while.” Drink 2020 - 2040

95/100 Wine Spectator (2010 vintage)

"Leather, truffle, underbrush and spice aromas swirl around the core of sweet cherry and raspberry in this multifaceted red. Vivid and firmly structured, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and tobacco. Austere now, but this should be fine in two to three years. Best from 2019 through 2033. 250 cases made.” Drink 2019 - 2033

94/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni (2009 vintage)

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a touch more finessed and fresher than the Ugolaia tasted alongside it, with firm tannins and plenty of acidity for the year. Smoke, leather, plum and wild herbs give the wine much of its complexity, but it is the wine's length, and in particular, the way the tannins extend the finish, that are most notable. This is a gorgeous 2009 Riserva as well as a rare wine from this vintage that has upside."
