A deeply concentrated and complex example, these 2 hectares of Clos Vougeot mixed soils have been crafted by Jadot's magnificent winemaking into a dimensional yet intense and focused expression of this, one of Burgundy's greatest Grand Crus. With the staying power to benefit from considerable time in cellar it also has the manifest complexity and suppleness of structure to allow an approach, with caution, at some point a little sooner. Truly a special Vougeot - don't miss it!

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Allen Meadow, Burghound

"The exceptional freshness of the 2010 vintage is more than apparent here with a restrained and cool nose of intensely earthy red and dark berry fruit aromas that also display forest floor and humus notes. There is outstanding concentration to the extract-rich broad-shouldered flavors that display plenty of power and muscle on the impressively persistent if almost aggressively austere and very firmly structured finish. This is a big wine yet it carries its size and weight effortlessly in large part because of the fine mid-palate concentration and relatively fine grain of the tannins. Note that this is very much like the Chapelle in that it would be absolutely pointless to open a bottle at this point, indeed this is another 'bury it in the back of the cellar and forget you own it" wines."

91-94/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Medium red. Tight but pure nose offers redcurrant, red cherry, minerals, flowers, licorice and menthol, plus a high note of orange zest. On the palate, terrific inner-mouth energy gives sharp definition to the intense flavors of red berries, spices and menthol. Finishes with serious, firm tannins and an impression of weightlessness. For a taut wine that's built for a graceful evolution in bottle, this is remarkably pliant today."
