Buon Tempo vineyards are located in the south of the Montalcino region at 350m, protected by the hill of Amiata in the south and the Montalcino hill in the north. This creates a drier climate than the surrounding areas and combined with the poor galestro soils creates an ideal micro climate for the fussy Sangiovese grape to obtain real ripeness and structure.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Wine Advocate, Monica Larner
"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Alta sees 24 months of tonneaux, with 50% new wood. That added oak component gives the wine a dark, brooding personality and thicker concentration. Ultimately the bouquet is cleaner in the Alta expression (compared to the base Brunello) and the dried fruit tones of dark berry and cassis have more resonance. Spicy notes of Spanish cedar and cinnamon fill in the rear. Of the estate's two releases, this is the superior wine. Alberto Machetti's Tenuta del Buon Tempo is an estate I was not previously familiar with. I discovered two beautiful, albeit different, wines from this under-the-radar reality that are definitely worth trying."
