93+ Points
Rounded, silky and beguiling, Dom Perignon is not merely one of the most beautiful Champagnes but one of the world's most beautiful wines period. Full of complex layers and a 'vinous' texture that isn't merely about bubbles, this is not a wine that shouts but rather speaks very elegantly and convincingly in the glass (a larger white wine glass with room to breathe would be a revealing and nice way to serve this style). A bucket list bubbles that is equally suited for enjoyment before or with a beautiful dinner. Exceptional!

Its Origins

Moët & Chandon can trace its history back to 1743 when it was established by Claude Moët in 1743. It is now part of the massive LVMH group and is by far the largest house in Champagne, producing a staggering 24 million bottles a year and with nearly 30 kilometres of cellars to mature its stocks. Quality at Moët & Chandon has improved hugely under the auspices of master blender, Richard Geoffroy, who brought a silkiness, finesse and elegance to the wines that they were previously lacking. Moet's Chief winemaker is now Georges Blanck. Moët & Chandon now has outposts in Spain, California, Brazil and Australia, where it produces very high quality sparkling wines sold under the Green Point label.

What The Critics Say

97/100 Decanter, Steven Spurrier

"Released before the ‘tighter’ 2008, the standout character of the 2009 according to chef de cave Richard Geoffroy is ‘fruit, glorious, fruit’. With its floral nose, taffeta texture and linear finish, this balances power and restraint with precision and charm."

97/100 James Suckling

"This is a DP that shows the ripeness of the 2009 vintage yet remains full of energy. Gorgeous aromas of cream, apple, mango, honeysuckle, and chalk follow through to a full body and super fine, tight texture. Dense and agile. Vinous. It’s like a top grand cru white Burgundy. Think Batard-Montrachet. More depth than the 2006."

18+/20 Jancis Robinson

"Just being released. Very pale, very youthful nose. Lots of zest and freshness. Introvert and tight. But approachable in terms of texture. The flavour is not fully formed yet but it’s already a pleasure to drink from the point of view of balance, presumably thanks to the relatively low acidity. Light hint of bitterness on the end. Length. Palate-enrobing! Lovely texture." Drink 2018 - 2030
