A great chance to acquire this pre-aged release of the legend! Despite massive depth complexity is the focus, with a built palate where dense black Shiraz fruits are the source of an endless unfolding of toasty, spicy and earthy layers. From what were then 40 year old vines that produce an insanely low 2 tonnes per hectare, this is a true legend at a well deserved price. Stocks are low!

Its Origins

"The name Jim Barry is synonymous with Clare Valley family winemaking excellence. Graduating in 1947 as the 17th student with a degree at Roseworthy, Jim Barry with his wife Nancy went on to establish his own venture by purchasing property in 1959. Their sons Peter, Mark and John joined to grow the business to what it is today with Peter as the current managing director. Peter’s sons Tom and Sam are about to take over the Barry family reins, but as with such situations, handing over is never easy." Raymond Chan

What The Critics Say

96/100 Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, Jane Faulkner

"Deep crimson-purple; the bouquet is seductively complex, multi-fruit, spice and oak aromas playing tag with each other; the full-bodied palate continues the game, with lush black fruits and fine, savoury tannins in perfect balance, oak and alcohol seamlessly woven into the core of wine. The cork is good and well-inserted, but will prejudice the wine post 2030." Drink by 2030

94/100 Huon Hooke

"Very deep, dark purple/red colour and a sweetly blackberry jammy aroma, lots of toasty oak and a touch of cherry-liqueur; the flavour sweetly super-ripe and almost essency, with ample soft tannins and a touch of chew. Very sweet and ripe palate, but gets away with it, because those fine powdery tannins ride in so nicely on the finish and aftertaste. 07 OCT 2015." Drink 2015 - 2040

94/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds

"Inky ruby. Heady aromas of ripe blackberry, blueberry and candied licorice are complicated by sexy notes of vanilla, violet and Indian spices. Lush, deeply flavored and broad, offering intense dark berry and cherry compote flavors and an exotic floral pastille nuance. Finishes sweet and very long, with resonating spiciness, a hint of fruitcake and velvety tannins."
