50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir
Established in 1812, Champagne Laurent-Perrier is one of the most distinguished family-owned Champagne Houses. Based in the heart of Champagne, in Tours-sur-Marne, Laurent-Perrier has a pedigree for innovation, handcrafting a diverse and pioneering range of fine champagnes that are produced to traditional, time-honored methods. The House was acquired by the Nonancourt family in 1949 and for 50 years Bernard de Nonancourt dedicated his life to innovating and perfecting Laurent-Perrier champagne. The success of Laurent-Perrier was also driven by the energy of Bernard de Nonancourt’s family – his two daughters Alexandra and Stéphanie joined the House in 1987 and are now members of the Management Board. Today, the House of Laurent-Perrier is the largest independent champagne brand worldwide. The 150 hectares of vines owned directly by Laurent-Perrier are all kept with environmentally-friendly methods.
What The Critics Say
5 stars and Top 10 Wines, Cuisine Magazine Champagnes $100 & Over
"The Laurent-Perrier vintage ‘06 is a complex, opulent wine of great interest. There’s a sulphide-like thread through melon and lime-like fruit, and vanillin, bready bottle ferment complexities give it classic proportions. The palate is more structured than many other Champagnes of the vintage, supporting excellent depth of mature flavour." Listed Price $139

"The 2006 Millésime Brut reflects the vintage as well as the house style of Laurent-Perrier. It blends the vivacious freshness and white fruit flavors of Chardonnay with the full ripeness of Pinot Noir (50/50). Citrus-yellow in color and with a fine perlage, the 2006 opens with intense and fresh citrus aromas intermixed with white fruit, apricot, brioche and nougat flavors. Mouth-filling, round and fresh on the palate, this vintage reveals a stunning finesse and salinity in the lean and elegant, persistent and refreshing finish. This is a very well-defined and stimulatingly fresh and mineral vintage Champagne with a silky texture. A remarkably good 2006...Champagnes of Laurent-Perrier are mainly based on Chardonnay, whereas Pinot Noir is a junior partner and Meunier is only a very small part of the cuvées. Chef de cave François Cotard tries to extract the maximum of the aromatic part of the fruit to keep the natural freshness. That's why he ferments at controlled temperatures at 16 to 17 degrees Celsius in nothing but stainless steel vats. All of the cuvées undergo malolactic fermentation. Since Cotard protects his musts and wines from oxidation and racks the wines from the first lees very early, the wine style of LP is a very clear and reductive one. The assemblages of varieties, terroirs and vintages are made with the goal of keeping the freshness, finesse and elegance of the wines. The wines receive their maturity only from the aging on the lees from the second fermentation. Laurent-Perrier's range of Champagnes remains the same since 1982. All of the cuvées are excellent gastronomic Champagnes that go very well with food – or as an aperitif. The palate-cleansing Ultra Brut is a perfect Champagne for both aperitif and digestif."
