A superb price for the 2005 vintage! From an "outstanding" year in the Loire, this 13-year-old beauty has been specially held back -- as per Bredif tradition -- to be aged deep in the ancient chalk cellars of the domaine for release at a much, much later date. With beautiful flavour definition and perfectly poised, "firm" acid balance, this gently complex wine is still racy and bright. The epitomy of Loire white wine -- astonishing age and quality for this price.

Chenin Blanc

Its Origins

Marc Brédif was established in the 1890s, but the Domaine can boast a history which dates back to 1550. Ancient troglodyte cellars, which contain local wines over a hundred years of age, were carved into the underlying chalk during the tenth century, among the finest and most extensive Chais in Valley Loire. Marc Brédif makes the finest and most age worthy Vouvray Chenin Blanc, wines which drink magnificently on release. "Golden straw hue. Nose of green apples and stone fruit, honeyed citrus, acacia florals, hawthorn and fig. Generously layered palate, valencia orange and ripe apple, pine nuts and fragrant orange blossom notes before a complex, long and lingering finish of honeyed citrus and pear."

What The Critics Say

Vintage Report 2005, 5 stars and Outstanding, Michael Broadbent

"A markedly superior vintage where the grapes achieved a balanced phenolic ripeness over a long growing season. The finished wines exhibit an excellent concentration of fruit underscored by fine acidity, which should see them age well into the long-term. Bien classique. The best vintage of the decade so far."

Vintage Report 2005, Jim’s Loire

""A Great Vintage” The Loire was blessed with perfect weather conditions throughout this year and unlike 2003 the acidity levels were much better. As a result some wonderfully balanced wines have been produced. The grapes were harvested in ideal conditions and the vignerons have never known such an easy time."

Vintage Report 2005, 93 Outstanding, Wine Spectator

"Warm, dry season and ideal weather at harvest; low yields led to concentrated, balanced wines. Reds should age nicely; dessert wines superb."
