Normally $20. "The 2008 harvest was excellent, producing ripe grapes and full flavours. Drawn in by the warmth of aromas of white peach, pear and dried figs, a seam of lime zest runs through the vibrant palate; the wine retains a freshness with a hint of creaminess adding subtle complexity. The alluvial soils are reflected in the wet-stone minerality of the finish. Extremely good value and organically grown.

Great riesling buying from one of N.Z's best. "Typically fine scented, with rich, lemony, often honeyed flavours, this is the country's northernmost fine quality riesling. Grown in Gisborne ( some of the vines are 24 years old , it is gently sweet, in a softer, typically less racy style than the classic Marlborough wines. The grapes are grown organically in the Opou vineyard at Manutuke and are hand-harvested."

Just rated 94/100 from James Halliday. A blend of Shiraz and Grenache from orgainic fruit. "Dark in colour, and complex in character, the fruit here blends seamlessly to offer red and black fruits, loads of spice, complex Provençal herbs and a little salty edge for freshness; lively, fresh and more than just a little bit fun; excellent value. Drink to 2016."
The Kalleske family have been growing grapes in Greenock ( In Barossa ) for 100yrs and the average vine age is 50 years. No chemical fertilisers or pesticides are used and are certified organic. "One of my greatest revelations of my Australian tastings this year was Kalleske. From the Northern Section of the Barossa. He appears to have the talent for turning out magnificently concentrated, full throttle reds that are indigenous to the top echelon of Southern Australian producers. Readers should make every effort to get in on the ground floor as I predict increasing fame and fortune for Kalleske" Robert Parker. This wine is a blend of grenache ( 80% ) and shiraz from the Greenock Vineyard. Basket pressed aged in old oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Made from 35-40yr old vines. Predominately grenache based, unfiltered and minimal sprays it is a very natural wine that is a star with food. This cant come more highly recommended and if you havent experienced the brilliance of old vine grenache then this is the benchmark. "As usual, Charvin's 2007 Cotes du Rhone Le Poutet, a blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 5% Carignan, is one of the more attractive wines of this broad appellation. It exhibits an elegant black cherry, spring flower, loamy soil, garrigue, and spice-scented wine that should drink well for 3-4 years." Robert Parker.

Domain de l'Oratoire St-Martin is one of the Southern Rhone Valley's most conspicuous overachievers, making wines that are far above their humble appellations. All of their wines go into the bottle with no filtration and only a light fining. This is the type of estate that brings smiles to consumers who happen upon their wines. They are reasonably priced and qualitatively equivalent to wines selling at two or three times the price. This outstanding estate has been making fine wines for nearly as long as I have been writing."R.Parker.
"Composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, and aged in both foudres and 500-liter demi-muids, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne Cuvee Prestige is more fruit-driven than its 2006 counterpart. With silky tannins as well as sweet black currant, blackberry, charcoal, roasted herb, and scorched earth notes, this deep, fleshy, lavishly fruity 2007 should drink well for 5-6 years" 90/100 Parker

Normally $36 and its scored 5 stars in the Cuisine Pinot Noir tasting. Fully certified organic this is a boutique single vineyard winery on the free draining alluvial gravels of the Martinborough Terrace (adjoining vineyards owned by Ata Rangi, Dry River, Martinborough Vineyards, and Palliser Estate). "This boutique producer has quietly been producing some distinctive wines, all organically grown on the Martinborough Terrace. There is an endearing brambly, funky quality to this new release, with a side order of Martinborough spice." Cuisine. Excellent Martinborough pinot at a snip.

These are one off finds for pinot noir that we chase constantly- and believe us we try some seriously bad pinots at $25.00 and below. This is a bargain. Situated on the alluvial gravels of Martinborough where Te Hera Estate practice minimal intervention wine making ( low environmental impact and biodynamic practices ) which combine with Martinboroughs natural low yields. How they can afford to sell pinot of this quality at this price is beyond us ( and Im sure a lot of other wineries! ) but ours is not to reason why so just enjoy this superb find.
