2008 Millton Opou Vineyard Riesling

Milton Vineyard, Gisborne & Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Great riesling buying from one of N.Z's best. "Typically fine scented, with rich, lemony, often honeyed flavours, this is the country's northernmost fine quality riesling. Grown in Gisborne ( some of the vines are 24 years old , it is gently sweet, in a softer, typically less racy style than the classic Marlborough wines. The grapes are grown organically in the Opou vineyard at Manutuke and are hand-harvested."

$26.99

2007 Charvin Cotes du Rhone

Charvin, Rhone Valley, France

Made from 35-40yr old vines. Predominately grenache based, unfiltered and minimal sprays it is a very natural wine that is a star with food. This cant come more highly recommended and if you havent experienced the brilliance of old vine grenache then this is the benchmark. "As usual, Charvin's 2007 Cotes du Rhone Le Poutet, a blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 5% Carignan, is one of the more attractive wines of this broad appellation. It exhibits an elegant black cherry, spring flower, loamy soil, garrigue, and spice-scented wine that should drink well for 3-4 years." Robert Parker.

2007 L'Oratorie St Martin Cairainne Prestige

L''Oratoire St Martin, Rhone Valley, France

Domain de l'Oratoire St-Martin is one of the Southern Rhone Valley's most conspicuous overachievers, making wines that are far above their humble appellations. All of their wines go into the bottle with no filtration and only a light fining. This is the type of estate that brings smiles to consumers who happen upon their wines. They are reasonably priced and qualitatively equivalent to wines selling at two or three times the price. This outstanding estate has been making fine wines for nearly as long as I have been writing."R.Parker. "Composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, and aged in both foudres and 500-liter demi-muids, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne Cuvee Prestige is more fruit-driven than its 2006 counterpart. With silky tannins as well as sweet black currant, blackberry, charcoal, roasted herb, and scorched earth notes, this deep, fleshy, lavishly fruity 2007 should drink well for 5-6 years" 90/100 Parker

$39.99

2008 Te Hera 'Kiritea' Martinborough Pinot Noir

Wairarapa/Wellington - Other, Wairarapa/Wellington, New Zealand

These are one off finds for pinot noir that we chase constantly- and believe us we try some seriously bad pinots at $25.00 and below. This is a bargain. Situated on the alluvial gravels of Martinborough where Te Hera Estate practice minimal intervention wine making ( low environmental impact and biodynamic practices ) which combine with Martinboroughs natural low yields. How they can afford to sell pinot of this quality at this price is beyond us ( and Im sure a lot of other wineries! ) but ours is not to reason why so just enjoy this superb find.

$18.99

2007 Kalleske Greenock Barossa Shiraz

Kalleske, The Barrosa, Australia

A young turk, Troy Kalleske, seems to be obsessed with making a great name for his familys Barossa Valley wines. The Kalleske family owns a whopping 400 acres in Barossa's tenderloin section, the highly renowned Greenock region. This is a certified organic wine from low yielding old gnarled vines. The 2003 scored a 96-100/100 from Parker, the 04 scored a 94/100 and the 2005 scored a 93/100. No reviews yet on the 07 but heres Parkers 05 review ( he hasnt reviewed the 06 yet either ) "Even more impressive the 05 shiraz exhibits greater intensity, and additional roasted meat and gamey characteristics interwoven with pepper, creme de cassis and blackberry liqueur. The 2005 should evolve and drink well for 10-15 years.." Parker Full on serious Barossa Shiraz that will age magnificently.

$54.99

2008 Vinos Pinol Raig de Rain

This was a huge hit at the European Wine Experience because of its standout 'bang for your buck' value. The winery Vinos Pinol is located in the town of Bateawhich is 45 miles south of Barcelona in the high mountains of Tarragona- 1300 ft above the Mediterranean sea. The Terra Alta region is located next to Priorat, enjoying the same climate conditions and altitude as the Priorat wine region. The vineyards of Vinos Pinol are composed of slate with small particles of clay in the topsoil and small particles of limestone in its subsoil. This wine is from low yielding older vines, in organically grown vineyards. It is a blend of grenache, syrah, cabernet and merlot aged for 4 months. Rich, bold and smooth- all the ingredients of modern Spanish winemaking but with that European twist of earthiness and mineral aromas.
