Named Winery of the Year by Raymond Chan ( senior wine judge ) and a serious score of 92+/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate. Parkers Advocate writes "The Robertson family, owners of Te Awa and Dry River, has recently started this Kidnapper Cliffs venture in Hawke’s Bay joining the forces of winemakers Ant MacKenzie and Neil MacCullum. Total production is very limited at just around 1500 cases ( of which only 130 dozen of the Ariki '09 were made ). These early efforts look incredibly promising. Coming from the Gimblett Gravels sub-region, the 2009 Ariki is a Bordeaux blend giving a very deep purple hue and notes of ripe plums, crushed blackberries, pencil lead and black currant with hints of cloves, cedar and cumin seed. Medium bodied with a high level of fine grained tannins, it has crisp acid, just enough fruit and a long finish. Give it another year in bottle and drink to 2019+."
Also 19.5-/20." Raymond Chan- Senior Wine Judge and 97/100 from Wine Orbit Magazine

92/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate which writes " The 2009 Chardonnay is all Mendoza clone and fermented in French barrels, 15-20% new, with no malo-lactic. It has a very alluring nose of apricots, peach kernels, meal, cashews, fresh bread, crushed stones and orange blossom. Medium bodied, crisp and tightly-knit in the mouth, it has a silky texture and a very long, minerally finish. Drinking nicely now, it should cellar to 2016+." Also 91/100 Bob Campbell
and 93-95/100 Sam Kim Wine Orbit

This is one of our favourite and most popular quality chardonnays we've ever sold. From vines planted in 1993 and the key to this quality is a unique vineyard site. Blacks vineyards are located on a limestone subsoil in Waipara ( on which many great French vineyards are situated- Chablis, and Burgundy ). Limestone not only controls yields but imparts into the wines complex, minerally characters that add an extra dimension to the overt fruit characters of most N.Z wines. 18/20 from Raymond Chan ( senior wine judge ) who writes " Bright, full, light golden, straw-yellow colour, this has a bold and broad nose of ripe, yellow stonefruits, melons, and mealy nuanced fruit with good nutty, toasty oak. This is a full-bodied, open and accessible wine with brassy, ripe peach and citrus fruit flavours and equally expressed nutty oak backing. There is plenty of power and depth, and along with the acidity, the wine has the structure to keep well over the next 4-5 years, offering enjoyment all that time. Match with firm flesh fish, rich poultry and roasted pork."Also 90/100 from Bob Campbell who writes "Rich and creamy Chardonnay with a mix of peach/nectarine and citrus plus nut, mealy savoury characters. Intense and complex Chardonnay with power."

The 2010 reds from Hawkes Bay are shaping up to be another stella vintage. Bullnose has now built its reputation as a leading NZ syrah so stocks dont hang around- its just come onto the market so jump now!. Bullnose Syrah was first planted in 1990 and the vineyard’s old red iron soils produce Te Mata Estate’s finest syrah.
This wine has distinct floral and spice aromas, rich
f avours of plum, raspberry and blackberry, with a
velvety texture. Michael Morris and Peter Cowley,
vineyard partners and old car enthusiasts, named
Te Mata Estate’s Bullnose vineyard after the pre-
1928 Morris Cowley car, nicknamed ‘Bullnose’
due to its distinctive radiator. The bull emblem that
appears on the label is drawn from the Bullnose
car’s radiator crest.

One of Metro Magazine's 100 Wines for Summer and 94/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate "The 2009 Hunting Hill Chardonnay is a little youthfully mute, giving delicate lime zest, chalk dust and pink grapefruit aromas over toasted almonds, meal and buttered scones. The palate has an elegant medium body yet packs in wonderfully concentrated toast, meal and citrus flavors with racy acidity, a satiny texture and a very long finish. I love it now, though it will benefit from another 6-12 months in bottle, drinking best 2013 to 2019+."

"This intensely perfumed and flavoured Martinborough Gewurzztraminer is one of the country's finest. Medium-dry or medium in most years, in top vintages it shows a power and richness comparable to Alsace's vendange tardive ( late harvest ) wines. Always rich in alcohol and exceptionally full-flavoured, it is also very deliccate, with a tight, concentrated, highly refined palate that is typically at its most seductive at two to four years old, although it can mature well for more than a decade." One of NZ's most talented winemakers, Dr. Neil McCallum (Dry River) has overseen the Kidnapper Cliffs label's first release. As the latest addition to the Julian Robertson family NZ wine, the Kidnapper Cliffs 17ha Hawke's Bay vineyard has been parceled out from Te Awa's mature vine holdings, specifically selected for its free draining soil and consistent production of high quality fruit. "A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Rich, weighty and dry - the Semillon component clearly contributes to the wine's impressively viscous mouth feel. Tree fruit/nectarine/white peach flavours with nutty lees adding a further dimension of complexity. Blending Semillon into Hawke's Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a logical but inspired direction that others are likely to follow. This is not the first example of such a blend but it is clearly the best I have tasted." 93/100 Bob Campbell

92+/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate "The 2009 Coddington Chardonnay displays expressive notes of pineapple, pink guava, peach kernels and warmed pear slices with hints of cashews, marmite on toast and oyster shells. Medium bodied and with a pleasant touch of viscosity, it gives great concentration, lively acidity and a long savory finish. Approachable now, it should drink to 2017+."

This is the first time Wild Earth has deemed the fruit to be of good enough quality to produce a "Reserve Pinot Noir". Only 12 barrels were made from their Bannockburn Vineyard with Bob Campbell raving “A massive “fruit bomb” style with intense plum, dark cherry and Oriental spice flavours. Powerful Pinot with a featherbed texture and lingering finish that won’t quit. I’m a fan of Wild Earth Pinot Noir but this is their best wine ever."
