Superb Chianti buying because this estate is in the Chianti sub zone of Colli Senssi that is owned by Felsina. Because they don't have the classico designation the wines offer great value drinking as the area is not well known. ( Even though the vineyard is across the road from its $40.00 chianti classico brother! ). "With a true sangiovese expert such as Giuseppe Mazzocolin of Felsiina at the helm, it's no surprise that these are some of the very best wines made in Colli Senesi and prices are ridiculously low for the quality." S.Tanzer. Savoury with a classical personality hinting at raspberry, prune, floral and liquorice. The medium-bodied, tasty palate has a silky mouthfeel leading to a typically Italianate finish. Excellent drinking right now.

Top, top class Rioja. "The 2005 Muga Reserva Seleccion Especial is made from older vineyards and aged longer in barrel. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an alluring perfume of sandalwood, pencil lead, incense, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, rich, structured, and savory, on the palate spice notes and terroir aromas make an appearance leading to a pure, 45-second finish. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2035."93/100 Parker

Last years vintage was voted 'Best Buy' in Cuisine in the Under $20.00 section and also Wine of the Week in the N.Z.Herald and Smart Buys in Wine Orbit. How the Spanish produce wines at this value is scary for the rest of the red wine producing nations. A blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache from Spain and from the best of their 15-30 yr old vines. "Year after year the wines from Borsao have made the pages of the Wine Advocate as superb values. Based on the positive mail I have received, they are a huge hit with readers" Robert Parker.
"80% garnacha and 20% tempranillo) Vivid purple color. Intensely floral scents of violet, rose, raspberry, blackberry and Asian spices. A step up in complexity from the Vina Borgia and Monte Oton, with an extra aromatic dimension and impressive, sweet berry character. The finish is bright, focused and way, way more persistent than a $20 wine should be." 89/100"Tanzer

Buying wine made from from old vine mountain grown grenache at this price is amazing and its rated in Wine Spectators Top 100 Wine Values of 2008. It comes from Campo de Borja in South East Spain. These bush vines yield less than two tons per acre and are blended with low yielding Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.
"The 2006 Crianza Seleccion is purple-colored with a fragrant nose of cedar, spice box, black cherry, and black currant. Smooth-textured, savory, and ripe, it has excellent depth, concentration, and length. It will evolve for 2-3 years and be at its best from 2010 to 2016." 89/100 Parker

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape that is responsible for the great wines of Piedmont's Langhe and Monferrato hills: Barolo and Barbaresco. These are the most coveted of Italian wines among international collectors. Notoriously difficult to cultivate, Nebbiolo tends to be planted in the warmest hillside sites, where drainage is excellent. "This is a very strong set of entry-level wines from Luciano Sandrone, one of Piedmont's top growers. In a region full of outspoken, colourful producers, Sandrone remains soft-spoken and rather shy, but his wines speak for themselves rather eloquently. The 2006 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is made from a vineyard in the emerging Roero district. It is an especially generous Nebbiolo in this vintage. Perfumed aromatics meld into super-ripe red cherries, spices, flowers and toasted oak. The wine offers outstanding depth and richness in a full-bodied, racy style. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016." One of the most important Italian grapes, the Barbera produces half of all the red wine found in northern Italy. Barbera is productive and grows very well in warm to hot climates. Known for its low tannins and high acidity (hard to acheive in hotter climes) the Barbera can range from light and tart to hearty and robust, factors which are determined by the age of the vines and the amount of oak ageing. Flavors and aromas of cherries, plums, red currants and raspberries are common.
"The 2006 Barbera d'Alba is a jewel. The wine sparkles with layers of vibrant dark fruit intermingled with sweet toasted oak, showinf outstanding length, purity and above all else, tons of class. This is a delicious wine from Luciano Sandrone. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014."90/100 Parker

Helmut Donnhoff is a world famous riesling producer from the Nahe. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dynnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Donnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Donnhoff. The Donnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Top line rieslings.

The 2008 Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese is exceptional, as it soars from the glass in a beautiful aromatic mix of fresh figs, yellow plum, lime zest, a fine base of slate, honeycomb and orange blossoms. There is a crystalline aspect to the fruit aromas and flavors here that is most exciting. On the palate the wine is fullish, crisp and beautifully filigreed, with excellent focus and mid-palate depth, bright, tangy acids and outstanding length and grip on the complex and perfectly balanced finish. Lovely, lovely juice. 2013-
2045. 94/100."Martin Gillman

Deep yellow-gold color. Elegant tobacco spice, acacia honey, mango and a hint of raisin on the nose and in the mouth. Full-bodied, rich and opulent, yet not yet fully developed. This dry wine shows a sweetly flavored finish with plenty of peppery spice and minerals.
