This sells at the winery for $20 Aussie! 94/100 "First sniff and you know you’re on to something here. It’s a serious and impressive shiraz showing why this region is gaining so much momentum – finally – for this variety. Savoury dark fruit with a liberal splash of French oak. A sprinkle of spice adds to the enticing perfume. Excellent stuff. Sensational value. 94/100”.
The West Australian ‘West Weekend Magazine’, Ray Jordan, Margaret River experienced one of the hottest and driest summers on record. As a result of these climatic conditions, the 2010 vintage proceeded more as a so named, "normal" year, giving pristine fruit, good varietal definition and superb balance. Overall, a great vintage.
Sandaford has also been rated the coveted "RED 5 STAR WINERY" in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition by James Haliday.

96/100 from James Halliday "Brilliant green-gold; has exceptional structure and mouthfeel; the citrus and nectarine fruit is vibrant, and there is a streak of minerality running through the wine; oak is present, but is not at all intrusive. Drink to 2020."

93/100 from James Halliday who writes "Good hue, although not particularly deep; continues the savoury/black olive/earthy/cedary style it has had since day one; has good length, texture and structure. Drink to 2020." Also 94/100 from The Wine Front, Gary Walsh, 93/100 Nich Stock, Good Wine Guide 2011, 93/100 Jeremy Olivers Wine Annual 2011. Impressive scores at this price point.

Normally $37. 96/100 from James Halliday "Bright crimson-purple; fragrant red and black cherry fruit on the bouquet also runs fluently through the long, elegant, medium-bodied palate; as the wine moves to the finish, the spicy/savoury components become more obvious, yet still harmonious. Drink to 2025." Also Gold at the Sydney Top 100 and 94/100 from Jeremy Oliver. Top Margaret River Shiraz.

94/100 from Halliday “Spotlessly clean but complex blackcurrant/blackberry and briar fruit; long palate strengthened and lengthened by tannins on the finish. Fruit, not oak, driven. ”

Limited - first in best dressed. Intrduced to the Cape Mentelle vineyard from California in 1975, zinfandel is a particularly challenging variety to manage both in the vineyard and the winery. The resulting hedonistically rich wine makes all the hard work worthwhile and as such the Cape Mentelle zinfandel has developed something of a 'cult' following amonst lovers of bold red wines. "This is one of the best Mentelle zinfandels of recent times. Ironstone aromas plus hints of jam and wood among a complex array of aromas. Smooth, rich, savoury with drying tannins and lots of gravitas ... stacks of flavour and character." 92/100 Huan Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald.
