Grahams, Porto/Douro, Portugal
As with other non-dated Ports, Fine Tawny is a blend of wines from several years. The task of the tasters is to maintain the exact colour, taste and consistency of this blend which is a perfect example of the style. Graham's Fine Tawny combines these qualities with the rich fruity style which is the hallmark of all Graham's Ports. The skilful inclusion in the blend of some older wines adds a lingering, nutty taste.

This spectacular 42 hectare vineyard is all harvested by hand and the grapes are trodden by foot in the traditional lagares (33 men for a total of 148 man hours). The main components are old mixed vines of Touriga nacional and Tinta Roriz. This is vintage port at its quintessential best and particularly good value. A great vineyard and the experience of the Symmington family."an immense deep purple-black colour,a rich and lifted nose of violets and spices. On the palate, it has complex flavours of rich black chocolate, ripe red fruits and a fine finish of peppery tannins that will give great ageing potential." Peter Symington.

Like Vintage Port, LBV is a wine of a single year but it is not a 'declared' Vintage Port. Whereas Vintage Port spends only two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is aged solely in cask and then bottled at between four and six years old. At the time of bottling it has completed its maturation and is ready for drinking without the need for decanting. Graham's LBV has much of the rich full fruity flavour and 'grip' of Vintage Port, combining this with a softness gained through oak ageing.

"Sporting an opaque, black-colored robe with dark purple trim, the 2003 Fonseca Vintage Port exhibits a nose of profound depth. Its sweet black mass of dark fruit and spice aromas leads to a character of immense depth, richness, and weight. Full-bodied, viscous, and almost impenetrable, this dense, backward port is powerful and exceptionally long in the finish. Possibly the most masculine Fonseca I’ve ever encountered, it coats the taster’s palate with licorice, jammy black fruits, and notes of chocolate that last for over a minute. This blockbuster will require at least three decades to fully blossom. Anticipated maturity: 2035-2060." 96+/100 R.Parker

"Remarkably deep in colour, almost to the verge of being opaque. The nose is very well defined but much more introverted than Fonseca - aloof, stentorian, correct. The palate is full-bodied, beautifully defined, great weight that is channelled in one direction. Brilliant focus here, less extrovert than Fonseca of course but more refined and sophisticated. Certainly this is a Taylors for long-term ageing, one can feel it reserving its energy for 20-years down the line. Great backbone here. Very harmonious towards the finish that really caresses the palate, with a hint of white pepper lingering in the mouth. Wonderful."97/100 Parkers Wine Advocate
