Gift Champagne

What better way to celebrate than with a great gift of Champagne!

Veuve Clicquot Brut N.V. Champagne

Veuve Cliquot, Champagne, France

Normally $85 on our shelf. 5 Stars in Cuisine "Veuve Clicquot trademark egg-yolk yellow non-vintage label is immediately recognisable. The wine behind is typically smooth, with cashew, stone fruits, vanilla cream and biscuity touches worked into a lush, satisfying, complex package. Although a Brut style, it has the typical light thread of sweetness that marks the house, yet remains clean and tangy."

$69.99

2002 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rose

Veuve Cliquot, Champagne, France

A House specialty since the 1770s. The robust fruit flavors of Veuve Clicquot's vintage Rosy results from adding still Pinot Noir wine from Veuve Clicquot's grand cru vineyards in the village of Bouzy. This wonderful, dry Champagne with its light rose glow and copper highlights is an ideal companion for delicate dishes like salmon or poultry and also as an apyritif. Vintage Ryserve Rosy has delicate pink color with hints of salmon and lively effervescence. The nose is expressive, with aromas of red fruit (wild strawberry, raspberry and gooseberry) that develop into more complex aromas (fig, fresh almond and bergamot). On the palate, the wine is round and balanced with a lingering finish. The wine has great structure and a strong yvinousy character, derived from superior quality pinot noir grapes.

2000 Dom Perignon Vintage Champagne

Champagne - Other, Champagne, France

The name Dom Perignon has become synonymous with class and stature. Dom Perignon is the prestige cuvye of the giant Moyt et Chandon Champagne house. It is named after the famous monk, who was the most important early influence in the development of Champagne into the sparkling wine we know today. A complex nose of citrus fruits, bread, minerals and red cherries with penetrating, intense, powerful citrus and mealy flavours and a sustained, persistent bead. Top of the class.

$240.00

Laurent Perrier Non-Vintage Rose Champagne

Champagne - Other, Champagne, France

This has become a benchmark for rose around the world and unlike most roses it is obtained by drawing off the juice from red grapes in the vat, and not simply by blending red and white wines. "This wine is a great advertisement for Rose Champagne, a style that deserves more respect than it receives in this country. Strawberry, red fruit, orange, bread and toast were noted by the judges. Intense flavours and crisp, refreshing acidity." 5 Stars Cuisine

$135.00

1998 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Vintage Champagne

Veuve Cliquot, Champagne, France

Beautifully presented in a magnificant leaf shaped leather lined gift box .The 1998 vintage of La Grande Dame, the quintessence of the Veuve Clicquot style, reaches a peak of refinement, without losing its legendary strength produced by a blend including nearly two-thirds of Pinot Noir.x. This aromatic, impressively complex bouquet is confirmed in the mouth. On the palate, the wine is clear-cut and pure, perfectly balanced with a delightful silky smoothness. La Grande Dame 1998, with its lacelike construction, has a long, lively, and structured finish. This wine has unbelievable ageing potential.

$204.00

2004 Beaumet Vintage Champagne

Champagne - Other, Champagne, France

Due end of August. Book now. Vintage champagne at $50 is a fantastic buy. Any of the big brands want over a $100 for their vintage champagne and the quality is no different since this is produced by Laurent Perrier. We forget sometimes that there are a lot of small growers who make their own champagne in the region. It is certainly worth trying these individual champagnes as they offer tremendous complexity for the price - (basically they don't spend vast sums on brand building) so you get real bang for your buck. The house Beaumet has been set up since 1878, by the family Baumet in the village Pierry. The house Beaumet now operates from offices and cellars in the beautiful Malakoff park, which has been lain in the centre of Epernay. Here their cellars are 30 meters deep underground and extend for 5 kms. They have more than 60 hectres of land in the best regions of champagne (Avize, Cramant Chouilly, Dizy, Champillon, Reims, L'Abbaye.). This is a class bubbly at a snip for vintage champagne.

$49.99

Quartz Reef Chauvet Methode Traditionelle Brut

Quartz Reef, Central Otago, New Zealand

Normally $32. An excellent bubbly from Central Otago and named by Joelle Thomson as one of her 'Five favourite Kiwi bubblies'in the Herald. "Drink when: you want to seduce someone extra special. This wine smells and tastes: like New Zealandys most champagne-like bubbly. And not only because it is made from the classic champagne grapes, chardonnay and pinot noir, of which it contains about equal quantities. It is on of the most southerly-grown bubblies in the world, made by Central Otago winemaker Rudi Bauer, in consultation with Frenchwoman Clotilde Chauvet, whose family own the champagne house of Marc Chauvet. The style is refreshingly lively and dry." Joelle Thomson.

$24.99

2002 Veuve Clicquot Rich Reserve Vintage Champagne

Veuve Cliquot, Champagne, France

Normally $115. Rich Reserve is a magnificant vintage bubbly that has a sweeter dosage added making it an off dry style of bubbly. The basic blend is composed of 21 Grands and Premiers Crus (55% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 12% Pinot Meunier) vintages. "This wine has a brilliant, attractive goldenyellow colour. The nose is extremely fruity, including aromas of fresh fruit compote, citrus fruits and peaches. When the wine is agitated, more spicy (cinnamon, liquorice) and buttery (marzipan) notes appear. The dosage plays its role perfectly; the bouquet seems more generous and concentrated. In the mouth, the wine is rounded and full-bodied, with Pinot Noir grapes (the majority variety used in this wine) providing strength and structure. The presence of Chardonnay gives the finish a fresh, pure touch with a finely integrated dosage. The wine ends with notes of caramelised citrus fruits, dried apricots and honey. Stored under good conditions, the Vintage Rich 1999 can be kept for 8-10 years, during which time it will develop complexity and aromatic richness."

$99.99

2005 Highfield Vintage Methode Traditionelle

Marlborough - Other, Marlborough, New Zealand

Normally $35.00 and great buying for a vintage aged Methode. "Comprises equal blends of chardonnay and pinot noir, with half fermented in French oak barrels and the other half in stainless steel. The Elstree spent three years in bottle before the yeast lees were removed, and the resultant wine has a strong, yeasty aroma with fine, toasty characters from the chardonnay component, while pinot noir promotes obvious weight and richness. This is a complex wine with impressive power and is now showing the benefit of extended bottle age."

$29.99

Cloudy Bay Non-Vintage Pelorus Methode

Cloudy Bay, Marlborough, New Zealand

Normally $39. 5 stars by Bob Campbell and Top 5 in the Cusine Methode Tasting. Bob writes "This is a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir grapes with at least two years ageing on the lees in bottle. The style has evolved from a big, rich and rather oxidative wine to a finer more elegant model available today. I favour this latest version- a delicately aromatic sparkling wine with a mix of apple, toast, mineral and yeast flavours. It's a fine textured, very elegant and sophisticated methode that gives a faint nod in the direction of Champagne."
