Shiraz

2009 Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz

Totally opaque black crimson colour with deep black crimson red hue. The nose displays lifted scents of ripe blackberry, dark plum and dark chocolate followed by a touch of liquorice and some mocha showing good intensity. The palate boast a rich mouthfilling seductive flavour profile of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate and dark plum followed by a touch of mocha and a spicy back palate. Velvet smooth perfectly integrated tannins. Excellent depth with very long blackberry, dark plum, dark chocolate and spice aftertaste.

2010 Te Mata Bullnose Syrah

The 2010 reds from Hawkes Bay are shaping up to be another stella vintage. Bullnose has now built its reputation as a leading NZ syrah so stocks dont hang around- its just come onto the market so jump now!. Bullnose Syrah was first planted in 1990 and the vineyard’s old red iron soils produce Te Mata Estate’s finest syrah. This wine has distinct floral and spice aromas, rich f avours of plum, raspberry and blackberry, with a velvety texture. Michael Morris and Peter Cowley, vineyard partners and old car enthusiasts, named Te Mata Estate’s Bullnose vineyard after the pre- 1928 Morris Cowley car, nicknamed ‘Bullnose’ due to its distinctive radiator. The bull emblem that appears on the label is drawn from the Bullnose car’s radiator crest.

2006 Penfolds Grange

“This year’s release is made from grapes grown mostly in the Barossa Valley (shiraz), though there is a small amount of shiraz from Magill Estate in Adelaide included in the final wine, and two percent cabernet sauvignon from Coonawarra. As always, it’s matured in 100 percent new American oak. This year’s Grange is a wine with a huge, clean, cutting right hook of flavour as you swallow. It’s not a massive release but the ropes of flavour-drenched tannin on the finish pull it on and on. This precision engineering through the finish marks its intense quality. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, nutmeg and smoky vanilla. It’s quite delicious, and yet there’s no question that it’s powerfully wrought. It’s not a particularly heralded vintage, in general terms, but the way this release presents in the glass is, to me, what Grange is all about. Impeccable winemaking, pure fruit, clasps of uncompromising tannin, smokin’ barrels, and thrust. It will live for a very long time, because it’s so well designed, and because it does its thing so well.” 97/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, Apr 2011

2010 Grant Burge Barossa Vines Shiraz

Very acceptable Barossa shiraz from this well respected producer. Matured in a combination of American and French oak for 14 months this wine has "Deep cherry red, with youthful purple hues and complex aromas of blackberries, raspberries, dark cherries, black pepper, with subtle cedary oak and cured meats aromas in the background. The palate is soft and generous with flavours of fruit cake, spice, and vanillin oak, fine grained tannins and a long finish. This is a seamless Barossan Shiraz is ideal for drinking on thse wintery nights.

2009 Granacha Old Vine Grenache Cotes Du Rhone

Another beauty we used to bring in which sold over $30. Supreme old vine buying. "The 2009 La Granacha is made from 100% old vine Grenache (some parcels are nearly 100 years old). Also aged in tank before being bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is the most powerful La Granacha yet made, tipping the scales at nearly 16% natural alcohol. The belief that such a powerful wine can not also be elegant is disproved by the precise, fresh, lively kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with tobacco leaf, loamy soil, and forest floor characteristics. This delicious, deep ruby/plum-colored, round, generous, glycerin-filled wine can be enjoyed over the next several years." 90/100 Parker

$24.99

2002 Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck

The renowned 2002 Shiraz Duck Muck, a late harvest cuvee with 16.5% alcohol, does not possess the Amarone-like, raisiny, pruny character one might expect from a Shiraz of this power. It boasts a dense purple color, a sumptuous perfume of black fruits, white flowers, and toasty oak, tremendous balance, full body, immense concentration, and abundant glycerin. Give it 3-4 more years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 10-15. Sadly, there are only 200 cases. 95/100 Parker
