Normally $29. "A consistently good, drink young style from Pegasus Bay. The 2009 vintage was fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques ( 15 % new ). Delicious now, it is a top buy, with loads of body, colour and flavour. Mouthfilling and supple, it is generous and fruit packed, with cherry, plum, herb and nut flavours, fresh and strong." M.Cooper. A sensational buy.

"One of the greatest of all New Zealand wines .The grapes are drawn from numerous sites, including the estate vineyard, planted in 1980, and the vines, ranging up to 29 years old. The 2009 was voted NZ's Top NZ Pint in the Good Australian Wine Guide and a 92/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate. Just released the 2010 is looking superb "Dark cherry melds with bright, lifted red fruit aromas and hints of spice in this exotic 2010 Pinot Noir. Floral notes are present too; old-fashioned violets and a touch of rose. This vibrant pinot has a sinuous, savoury spine of tannin that spreads out to a long, silky finish. Significant vine age, especially from the 30 year-old blocks, expresses itself in depth, breadth and complexity of character; a distinctive ‘sense of place’ so evident in Ata Rangi Pinot Noir. Vine age also contributes markedly to the consistency of quality year after year."

Normally $52. 91+/100 from Robert parkers Wine Advocate “Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2009 Pinot Noir offers a moderate intensity of raspberry, red cherry and pomegranate aromas at this stage with a yeasty / toasty undercurrent and a whiff of hung meat. The medium bodied palate is elegantly fruited with a medium level of fine tannins, lively acidity and a long finish. Still very young, it should drink best 2012 to 2017+.

Bob Campbell has just scored the 2009 a 95/100 in the Gourmet Traveller Magazine, and Gold at the prestigous Decanter World Wine Awards. Bob writes "A taut and elegant Pinot Noir with dark cherry, mineral, licorice and wild herb flavours. It seems tighter and more focused than the previous vintages with a seamless and lingering finish. Classy wine that gives a strong sense of place." New packaging, new owners and a new winemaker ( Nick Brown who is the hot young gun in Waipara and has done many vintages around the globe ) but from the same 19 year old Waipara pinot vines. A heroic pinot noir.
