Pieropan's single vineyard soave. This is the pinnacle of soave drinking. Simply stunning. This must be one of the toughest marketing jobs. Trying to convince consumers that soave can be a great white wine when the market is drowning in insipid, substandard soave. Pieropan has been at the forefront of this region for a long time now. His soaves are stunning and they go so well with our seafood and chicken meals. Dry, fine, delicate and textural- this is a class white wine with no oak influence.

Often scorned as a cheap Italian white, true Soave is a revalation not to be missed. Pieopan are considered one of the best producers in Italy of this stunnig wine type."This is how soave should taste but seldom does. Plenty of ripe pear-like fruit plus a dash of toasted nut flavours. Crisp and fresh, with a hint of honey in the finish, this is a delightful aperitif wine,as well as a fine choice for pairing with light seafood or vegetarian. Its delicate charm stands out in todays sea of heavy often hot wine" Beautiful classical white wine.

Gruner Veltliner, or Gru-Vee, as it has been dubbed, is the latest craze- especially in the wine bars of New York. Its Austrias own white variety: although lots of attention has focused on Austrian Riesling, they actually have an awful lot more Gru-Vee planted (by a factor of 10). Now its rightfully regarded as the centrepiece of Austrias wine industry. With its food friendliness, versatility and in many cases a capacity to gain complexity with age, Gruner looks set to gain more friends. Rhubarb, lime, and blond tobacco, combining exuberant brightness with a sense of sweetness born of sheer extract and a flattering creaminess of texture. A vividly scallop-like saline, savory, sweet character worthy of a great Chablis gives this a mineral dimension that will have you shaking your head in wonder even as you return for the next sip.

Helmut Donnhoff is a world famous riesling producer from the Nahe. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dynnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Donnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Donnhoff. The Donnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Top line rieslings.

Donnhoff is one of Germanys greatest producers. The 2009 Leistenberg Kabinett is again clearly Spätlese must weight, but it retains the essence of Kabinett in its dancing and racy acidity and real lightness of step on the palate. The bouquet is a beautiful blend of apple, grapefruit, violets, wild yeasts, white cherries and crystalline minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, medium-full and juicy, with beautiful transparency, bright acids and superb length and grip on the poised and classic finish. A beautiful bottle of Kabinett. 2010-2030+. 92/100 ."View from the Cellar-Martin Gillman

" Medium yellow-green. Fascinating nose offers mango and peach complicated by intense notes of honey and flinty minerals. Offers a satin-like texture, with opulent, sweet pineapple and succulent peach flavors dominating. Vibrant acidity nicely leavens the wine's sweetness, contributing to an impression of finesse. Finishes with apple, pear and peach flavors."90/100 Tanzer

"Pale green-yellow. Initially restrained nose shows ripe apple fruit and spicy nuances as the wine opens in the glass. Stylish, vibrant and nicely balanced, with a riesling-like structure. Expect this elegant and refreshing wine to improve with bottle aging."90/100 Tanzer

Great buying for a premier cru white burgundy. This is a quite a subtle style of chardonnay but with no lack of flavour or complexity. Hints of nuts and fresh lemon peel on the nose followed by spicy, grapefruit and hazelnut fruit flavours and a generous, supple, fresh finish. An absolute delight to drink. A classically styled vintage of immense appeal.
