The 2007 won Trophy for "Best Australian Shiraz" at the London International Wine Challege- a major, major achievment. Troy Kalleske is 'One of the Rising Stars of the Barossa as voted by Huon Hooke, Max Allen and Peter Forrestal in the Gourmet Traveller Magazine and Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate. The Pirathon is a full bodied wine encompassing the great flavour, texture and structure of the north-western Barossa. Pirathon is an ancient word meaning pinnacle. Higher altitude, gullies, hills, slopes, and undulations provide different topographies, microclimates and individualistic parcels of grapes with unique flavours and characters from their own site. Following careful selection from the highest quality growers and vineyards in the north-western Barossa, the grapes for Pirathon Shiraz were handcrafted in open top fermenters, basket pressed and then matured in barrel for two years. Each vineyard adds its own exclusive dimension to this wine and combined they produce the ultimate blend showcasing and celebrating the distinguished north-western Barossa region with a complex wine that will reward patient cellaring. It was made on site by Troy in the Kalleske winery and this is the second commercial release on this wine and its outstanding.

Heartland Cab Sauv 08 Makes "100 Best Aussie Wines of the Year" by Matthew Jukes ( a highly regarded UK Wine Critic ). This is a major achievement for a wine at this price. He writes- "Ben Glaetzer's trademark glossy, but detailed winemaking ensures that this exuberantly fruity wine manages to stay on the right side of self indulgent. With soaring cassis notes, a lick of menthol and posher oak than one would imagine for its workmanlike price point, this is a glorious piece of work and a real treat for fans of both Heartland and also this grape. Decant it for even more pleasure and you could easily convince your pals that this is a twenty pound wine."
"Deep ruby. Expansive, highly perfumed bouquet of blackberry, cherry-vanilla and smoky spices. Dense red and dark fruit flavors are framed by supple tannins that fade away on the back half. This sappy, broad wine boasts impressive structure and finishes with a persistent cherry note. 90/100 tanzer.

The 2005 Shiraz Reiver, made from 60-year-old Shiraz vines in the Greenock area of the Barossa, was aged 18 months in lightly toasted French oak. Its inky/blue/purple hue is followed by a lovely perfume of flowers, blackberries, espresso, and licorice. Aged completely in 300 liter hogsheads, it offers stunning richness and length, and should drink well for 10-12 years. 94/100 Parker

5 Stars and taking the top spot on Cuisine's Best Buy list for offering an outstanding combination of quality and price. Also Gold Medal Liquorland Top 100, Gold & Trophy Royal Queensland Wine Show, Gold Medal New Brunswick Wine Show. Not bad for a wine at this price.
Quarisa wines was established by John and Josephine Quarisa. John Quarisa has had a distinguished career as a
winemaker spanning 22 years, working for some of Australia's largest wineries.
"This elegant, fresh, fragrant wine has floral, berry and liquorice characters of great aromatic quality, no doubt due in part to the five percent Viognier. It tastes persistent and tangy with a firm tannin backbone. Try it alongside lamb with Middle Eastern flavours." Cuisine

We managed to get a small allocation of this hugely reviewed wine. ( 95/100 from Parker )
"The 2007 Anaperrena Shiraz (75%)-Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) was sourced from 30- to 120-year-old vines with yields ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 tons of fruit per acre. It spent 15 months in new oak, predominantly French. Purple/black in color, it offers up a splendid nose of pain grille, mineral, scorched earth, blueberry, and black currant. Dense and massive on the palate, it has layers of ripe fruit, excellent balance, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Allow it 3-4 years to round out and drink it from 2011 to 2022." R.Parker.

Elsewhere this is $21 and its a cracker from master winemaker Chris Ringland ( winemaker at Rockford and world renowned flying winemaker. ) "A Blend of Shiraz and Cabernet - big and rich, but more complex than most two and three times the cost, Plush and fruit-driven on the palate, this is a ripe, tasty wine for casual quaffing over the next 4-6 years. It is a superb value. "R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end. The Marquis Philips wines have established a six year track record of delivering a big bang for the buck." Robert Parker

91/100 from Parker who writes "Aged for 12 months in French and American oak. Like the Cabernet, 20% dried fruit was included in the blend. Purple-coloured, it offers up an expressive nose of cedar, spice box, smoke, pepper, and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied and supple textured, the wine has a forward personality with layers of spicy fruit and some elegance. It is for drinking over the next ten years. It too is an outstanding value."

Elsewhere $165. The 2005 Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon contains 13% Merlot. It was sourced from the namesake vineyard with vines ranging in age from 23-49 years. It was aged for 21 months in 73% new French oak. A saturated purple color, the aromatics reveal lots of spice, cigar box, black currants and blackberry. Round, ripe, and extracted on the palate, this lush, flavorful Cabernet will continue to unwind for several more years and offers a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2025. 95/100 Robert Parker.

Elsewhere $130. 92/100 from Jeremy Oliver who writes "An elegant, fine, supple and slightly herbaceous cabernet blend of pleasing prettiness and charm. Its dusty, leafy bouquet of violets, mulberries and cassis, sweet cedar/vanilla oak reveals forest floor-like undertones, hints of tobacco and dried herbs. Elegant, supple and restrained, its loose-knit palate of vibrant dark berry fruit and sweet chocolate/vanilla oak finishes a little short of its usual length and drive, with just a hint of sappiness. Drink 2014- 2018." According to the Winemaker it will develop in a similar vein to the legendry 1987 and 1990 vintages due to the long slow ripening season and will cellar for 20+ years.

In 1853 the Kalleske vineyard was established at Moppa, a sub district of Greenock in the Barossa North- West.94/100 from Halliday who writes " Dark dense purple; a rich, lifted and complex bouquet is followed by a full-bodied and no less complex palate, seemingly riper than the alcohol suggests. There is a lift to the flavour, but whether or not this is due to the trace of viognier and petit verdot is hard to say. Rating 94/100 Drink 2025." Also 91/100 from Huan Hooke - "delicious drop and amazing value"
