94+/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate "The 2009 Mate’s Vineyard Chardonnay has a beautifully expressive and complex nose already, with notes of ripe apples, white peaches, butterscotch and pineapple over savory undertones of croissant, crushed nuts and yeast extract plus a whiff of struck match and wet pebbles. Medium bodied with a beautiful satiny quality to the texture, the fruit remains a bit tight though very concentrated with crisp acid to enliven and a long layered finish. Consider drinking it 2013 to 2019+."

2009 is Kumeu River's twelfth vintage of Pinot Gris. They are already one of NZs top producers and each year as the vines age, the wine gains even more complexity and interest.
2009 has produced an excellent Pinot Gris. It is a little drier than previous years and this gives crisp and refreshing quality to the wine. "The aromas have typical peach and stone fruit notes tinged with the floral perfume that we have come to expect from Pinot Gris. On the palate the wine is rich and complex with an oily texture that coats the tongue and lingers on the palate, with a lovely length of flavour." Pinot Gris is a variety that goes particularly well with food, including quite intensely flavoured dishes. It is also one of the few wine styles that can handle the spiciness of chilli, so together with the sweet succulence of prawns, a nicely chilled bottle of Kumeu River Pinot Gris makes up a spectacular combination.

Coddington Chardonnay comes from a single vineyard about 3 kilometers from the winery that was planted in 1994. The soil here is predominately clay and the vines are all Clone 5. The 2008 Coddington Chardonnay is the third vintage of this wine produced by Kumeu River. Barrel fermented using natural yeasts and about 20-25% new French oak,.100% goes through malo-lactic. The nose is already very expressive displaying really intense ripe pineapple and pink guava aromas with a toasty/biscuit undercurrent and nuances of lime juice, orange blossom and some butterscotch. Very crisp, rich, and medium-full bodied, this opulent, satin textured wine gives a long exotic-fruited finish. It’s temptingly approachable now, though it should drink best 2013-2017+. Around 850 cases were produced." 92/100 Robert Parkers Wine Advocate

"The 2008 Hunting Hill Chardonnay comes from a vineyard just across from the winery, also planted to Clone 5. It’s a slightly cooler site with an iron pan running beneath the vineyard. This is the third vintage of this label. Made in a similar fashion to the Coddington Chardonnay, this wine gives powerful lime/lemon aromas with some grapefruit zest and orange blossom plus a whiff of chalk. Very crisp, intense and silky, this is a more restrained, tight-knit expression leaving a very long mineral and citrus zest finish. Built for the cellar, this wine should be best 2014 to 2019+. Around 1000 cases were made." 93+/100 Robert Parkers Wine Advocate

"The 2009 Estate Chardonnay gives intense notes of ripe apricots, guava, green mango and honey coated nuts with nuances of lightly browned toast and white blossoms. Medium bodied with a silken texture, it gives great concentration, crisp acidity and a long toasty finish. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2016+." 91/100 Roberrt Parkers Wine Advocate
"A youthful wine yet exhibits seductive complexity and irresistible aromas of white peach, citrus, oatmeal and a touch of flint. The palate is concentrated and beautifully integrated with fine texture and bright acidity providing superb structure and a refreshing mouthfeel. As always, this vintage of Kumeu River Chardonnay is meticulously detailed with an outstanding potential to develop gratifying flavours. At its best: now to 2016." 94/100 Sam Kim- Senior Wine Judge.
