Limited - first in best dressed. Intrduced to the Cape Mentelle vineyard from California in 1975, zinfandel is a particularly challenging variety to manage both in the vineyard and the winery. The resulting hedonistically rich wine makes all the hard work worthwhile and as such the Cape Mentelle zinfandel has developed something of a 'cult' following amonst lovers of bold red wines. "This is one of the best Mentelle zinfandels of recent times. Ironstone aromas plus hints of jam and wood among a complex array of aromas. Smooth, rich, savoury with drying tannins and lots of gravitas ... stacks of flavour and character." 92/100 Huan Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald.

96/100 from James Halliday "This wine has no oak influence, unlike Mentelle’s barrel-fermented Wallcliffe. Light straw-green, it has an extra measure of intensity and drive, with an array of flavours ranging from grassy pea pod to citrus, and ultimately a touch of tropical fruit; the length is a given, likewise the balance. Drink to 2013."
