90+ Point Wines

These wines are sure to please, all having been given at least a 90 point rating by some of the world's most respected wine critics.

2009 Clos Des Pape Chateauneuf-du-Pape

“I tasted through various foudres of the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape and it is unquestionably a top-fl ight wine for Clos des Papes that is seductive and forward by the standards of this estate. It reminded me of the precocious style of the 2003, and Avril told me the 2009 is less alcoholic than either the 2003 or 2007, and the pH is a normal 3.75. Yields were a very small 20 hectoliters per hectare, largely because of their selection process and the drought. Every foudre I tasted was beautifully pure displaying a deep ruby/plum color, sweet kirsch and black raspberry fruit, full body, decent acidity (they never acidify here) and sweet, velvety tannins. This should turn out to be a mid-90-point wine that will take a back seat to the 2007, possibly even to their monumental 2006, but will surpass what they did in 2008, 2005, 2004, 1999 and 1998. The 2009 is a beautiful success that should drink well for 15+ years.” 92-95 Robert Parker

2010 Hiedler Riesling Steinhaus

$35.99

2009 Hiedler Riesling Maximum

" Medium yellow-green. Fascinating nose offers mango and peach complicated by intense notes of honey and flinty minerals. Offers a satin-like texture, with opulent, sweet pineapple and succulent peach flavors dominating. Vibrant acidity nicely leavens the wine's sweetness, contributing to an impression of finesse. Finishes with apple, pear and peach flavors."90/100 Tanzer

2006 Penfolds Grange

“This year’s release is made from grapes grown mostly in the Barossa Valley (shiraz), though there is a small amount of shiraz from Magill Estate in Adelaide included in the final wine, and two percent cabernet sauvignon from Coonawarra. As always, it’s matured in 100 percent new American oak. This year’s Grange is a wine with a huge, clean, cutting right hook of flavour as you swallow. It’s not a massive release but the ropes of flavour-drenched tannin on the finish pull it on and on. This precision engineering through the finish marks its intense quality. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, nutmeg and smoky vanilla. It’s quite delicious, and yet there’s no question that it’s powerfully wrought. It’s not a particularly heralded vintage, in general terms, but the way this release presents in the glass is, to me, what Grange is all about. Impeccable winemaking, pure fruit, clasps of uncompromising tannin, smokin’ barrels, and thrust. It will live for a very long time, because it’s so well designed, and because it does its thing so well.” 97/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, Apr 2011

2009 El Seque Alicante

A new winery owned by Artadi This is 80% old vine mourvedre, 10% Syrah and 10% Tempranillo and spends 14 months in French oak. It is from a 40 hectre high altitude vineyard from the Alicante region in Spain. Artardi has revitalised an old vineyard on limestone soils in this up and coming area . Similar in style to wines in Bandol in Provence. While they are big wines in their youth they soften out into almost Burgundian like complexity with age.

$49.99

2009 Autard Chateauneuf du Pape Ronde

"The outstanding 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cote Ronde has the oak well-concealed beneath a cascade of black fruits. An equal part blend of Grenache and Syrah from 60-year-old vines (with the Syrah enjoying malolactic fermentation in barrel and aging in new oak), this wine displays plenty of licorice, creme de cassis, blackberry, subtle spice and a heady dosage of Provencal herbs in a full-bodied, thick, juicy style that never loses its place of origin despite the modern oak treatment. Full-bodied and powerful, it comes close to rivaling the best La Cote Ronde I have tasted to date, the 2007. It will be best drunk over the next 10-15 years" 92-94/100 R.Parker

$79.99

2004 Muga Prado Enea Gran Riserva

This is a classic Gran riserva Rioja and its presented in a beautiful wooden six pack. Released when it is ready to drink ( a big bonus! ) and aged in large oak. A supremely elegant, complex red that has no hard edges. This is how great rioja used to be made. "The 2004 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is not quite as dense as the 2005 but is more expressive on the nose and rounder on the palate. It is a complete effort that should prove to be one of the best Prado Eneas Muga has produced." 94/100 Parker

$71.99

2010 Kalleske Pirathon Barossa Shiraz

The 2007 won Trophy for "Best Australian Shiraz" at the London International Wine Challege- a major, major achievment. Troy Kalleske is 'One of the Rising Stars of the Barossa as voted by Huon Hooke, Max Allen and Peter Forrestal in the Gourmet Traveller Magazine and Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate who writes. Scourced from top vineyard sites with old vines in the Northern Western sub region of the Barossa.

$39.99

2005 Muga Torre Muga Rioja

"The 2005 Torre Muga is composed of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, and 10% Graciano. Purple-colored and made in a more international style, it presents a brooding bouquet of pain grille, mineral, scorched earth, incense, and blackberry. Massive on the palate, the wine has tons of material, great density, and 6-8 years of cellaring potential. This packed and stacked effort will have a drinking window extending from 2017 to 2045"94/100 parker

$110.00

2007 Fontodi Flaccianello

Fontodi is rated one of the top 50 producers in Italy by the authorative Gambero Rosso Guide "I tasted the 2007 Flaccianello a number of times from barrel and tank before it was bottled a few months ago. The 2007 is a bold, extroverted Flaccianello that sweeps across the palate with sensual layers of candied cherries, violets, spices and minerals. Dark, mentholated notes develop in the glass, adding further dimensions of inner sweetness, weight and complexity to this Tuscan thoroughbred. While so many 2007s are forward and open, Flaccianello remains muscular, taut and in need of significant cellaring. Still, the round, enveloping finish augurs extremely well for the future. Flaccianello is a selection of the estate’s finest Sangiovese and is aged in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032 96/100"Parker
