Bullnose Syrah was first planted in 1990 and the vineyard’s old red iron soils produce Te Mata Estate’s finest syrah.

Since 1984, Cape Crest has developed an
international following for its unique expression
of New Zealand sauvignon blanc. Barrel
fermented, with a touch of semillon and sauvignon
gris, it is concentrated and complex with toast,
citrus blossom, pear and stonefruit characters.
Cape Crest and its gannet symbol refer to Cape
Kidnappers, the southern point of Hawke Bay,
home to the world’s largest mainland colony of
these remarkable marine birds.

Normally $36- superb buying for this prestigous label's new release. Word on the street is that this is an incredible Elston- possibly Te Mata's greatest ever! 90+/100 from Robert Parkers Wine Advocate that writes "The 2010 Elston Chardonnay gives intense aromas of pineapple, guava and warm apricot over nuances of cream, nuts, toast and oatmeal. Medium-full bodied and richly fruited, it has a nice suggestion of texture, refreshing acidity and a long finish. Drinking now, it should remain good through 2015."
M.Cooper writes "One of New Zealands most illustrious Chardonnays, Elston is stylish, intense, slowly evolving Hawkes Bay wine. At around 4 yrs old, it is notably complete, showing concentration and finesse." M.Cooper

Since 1995, Te Mata Estate has pioneered
New Zealand’s production of viognier, a rare white
grape from France’s Rhône Valley. Fermented
in barrel, it displays the floral, white peach and
honey characters found in the fi nest examples
of this entrancing variety. Zara is affectionately
named after Zara Buck, the fi rst born child of
the third generation of Te Mata Estate’s Buck
family. Zara spent her childhood playing amongst
the vines at the vineyard which is home to this
delightful viognier.

19.5+/20-"A majestic, massive wine. Saturated purple hued ruby red, this has a youthful bouquet of densely concentrated black fruits with hints of minerals, liquorice and spicy oak. The palate combines great richness and concentration of fruit with immense extraction in extraordinary balance and style. At 14.0% alc., this is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc. Brooding and primary, it will cellar 10-15+ years." Raymond Chan ( senior wine judge )

Normally $35 - here's a great deal on the new release. The Awatea ’10 is a blend of 42% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot.
Awatea takes its name from the historic ship SS Awatea (a Maori word meaning “Eye of the Dawn”) that sailed the Auckland – Sydney – Wellington route in the late 1930s.
The Awatea was requisitioned as a troop transport in WWII and was sunk off Algeria in 1942.
"Awatea ’10 is a dark magenta colour with aromas of fresh blackberry and raspberry infused with rosemary and sandalwood. The palate is pure, powerful, and well balanced, with mineral freshness and fine powdery tannin warmth contributing to its length. It will continue to evolve in bottle, providing great enjoyment up to 10 years from harvest." Te Mata
