Dry River Wines

2011 Dry River Craighall Martinborough Riesling

"Bright straw-yellow colour with pale green hues on edge, this has a softly fresh and full nose of concentrated, pure lime juices, white stonefruits and acacia florals, with richness and density. Dry to taste, the palate has elevated acidity providing raciness and zesty lime and apple-like flavours on a well-weighted palate with body, presence and concentration. The wine has very fine, smooth textures enlivened by the acidity which carries through to a sustained finish showing pure citrus fruit nuances. This should age well. Fruit from vines averaging 20 y.o. from the ‘Craighall' vineyard fermented to 11.8% alc. with 5 g/L rs. Match this racy, but substantial dry Riesling with seafood, especially shellfish over the next 6-8+ years. 18.0+/20." Raymond Chan- senior wine judge

2009 Dry River Martinborough Lovat Syrah

"Top vintages ( which 2009 is ) of this rare red are among the country's best." M.Cooper. "The clone of a planted variety is generally considered to have greater effect on the quality of white wines than reds but Syrah is an exception. Our plantings are of what is thought to be the ancient Serrine clone and when one looks at the fruit near harvest, differences can be seen when compared to modern clones. This was originally introduced into NZ in the late 1800’s and the last few existing vines were rescued from oblivion by Dr Alan Limmer (then of Stonecroft wines) out of the old Te Kauwhata research station. This wine displays a colour of deep carmine with a slightly purplish edge creating immediate expectations of richness. The nose is warm and inviting, slightly floral with the smell of black plum and white pepper, but presently tending more toward complex characters including sweet leather and dark chocolate. The palate is fresh, yet rich and rounded, with full soft tannins enveloping floral and black plum fruits along with flavours of black tea, leather and a long clean aftertaste. Overall a youthful wine that shows considerable promise. Evaluate from 4+ years – it should continue to improve for more than 10 if cellared well." Dry River

2009 Dry River Martinborough Pinot Noir

Undisputabely one of New Zealand's best and hardest to find Pinot Noirs. Because of their minimal production and huge national and international reputation their pinot noir always sells out very quickly so we are very excited to be able to offer this small amount for sale. "The 2009 vintage is enticingly floral, with full, youthful colour. Very generous and supple, it is beautifully ripe and harmonious, with concentrated berry, plum and spice flavours, youthful and built for the long haul. 5 Stars' M.Cooper

$83.99

2009 Dry River Martinborough Gewurztraminer

"This intensely perfumed and flavoured Martinborough Gewurzztraminer is one of the country's finest. Medium-dry or medium in most years, in top vintages it shows a power and richness comparable to Alsace's vendange tardive ( late harvest ) wines. Always rich in alcohol and exceptionally full-flavoured, it is also very deliccate, with a tight, concentrated, highly refined palate that is typically at its most seductive at two to four years old, although it can mature well for more than a decade." M.Cooper

$49.99

2009 Dry River Martinborough Chardonnay

93/100 from Bob Campbell, 5 Stars M.Cooper and 91/100 from Robert Parkers Wine Advocate who write "The 2009 Chardonnay has ripe apple and apricot aromas with nuances of toast, cashews, orange blossom and a whiff of honey comb. Very crisp on the medium bodied palate, there’s plenty of taut fruit and some silkiness to the texture with a long minerally finish. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012 to 2018." Also 93/100 from Bob Campbell who writes "Elegance, restraint and subtle power are the key qualities of this Martinborough wine. Its not a bold, upfront style, but tight, savoury and seamless, with rich grapefruit and nut flavours that build in the bottle for several years. Based on very low cropping ( typically below 5 tonnes/ hectre ) Mendoza clone vines, it is hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak hogheads ( averaging 25% new ). The proportion of the blend that has gone through a softening malolatic fermentation has never exceeded 15%."

2009 Dry River Martinborough Pinot Gris

Very rarely do we get to offer out what is perhaps NZ'S greatest Pinot Gris- it is made in tiny amounts so jump on this. "From the first vintage in 1986, for many years Dry River towered over other NZ Pinot Gris, by virtue of its exceptional body, flavour richness and longevity. A sturdy Martinborough wine, it has peachy, spicy characters that can develop great subtlety and richness with maturity ( at around five years old for top vintages, which also hold for a decade. ) .It is grown in the estate vineyards and nearby Craighall Vineyard; the majority of the vines are over 25 years old. The youthful 2009 is fleshy, with ripe stone fruit and spice flavours, a sliver of sweetness and lovely depth, delicacy and harmony." M.Cooper. 5 Stars.

$54.99

2010 Dry River Martinborough Viognier

"Estate grown , ( 5 stars ) the 2010 is highly seductive in its infancy. Richly scented, with a late-harvest feel, it shows lovely weight, ripeness and delicacy, with deep, vibrant stonefruit flavours, gentle acidity, a slightly oily texture, and exceptional richness and harmony." M.Cooper
