Normally $45- the first time we have ever been offered a deal on this high quality boutique label based on Felton Rd. 91/100 from Bob Campbell who writes "Sweet, ripe, dense plum and dark cherry flavours in a charming and moderately fruit bomb style. The wine has a great structure giving good access to luscious fruit flavours and promoting a lengthy finish. Seductive Pinot Noir with hints of spice."

Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards. Made only in those years where the wine quality is superior and 2009 looks like a cracker. A deliciously full bodied wine, containing layers of complexity with well integrated oak, deep purple in colour and exuding flavours of black cherries, plums, and savoury mushrooms and bacon. It is seductively smooth, and lingers in the mouth.
Made in tiny amounts this could be the trophy winner?

Normally $45. One of Metro Magazine's 100 Wines for Summer. 5 Stars and Top 10 in the Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, 90+/100 from Parkers Wine Advocate and 90/100 by Bob Campbell who writes Aromatic Pinot Noir with a savoury edge to ripe plum and dark cherry. Moderately dense and richly textured wine with a lengthy finish. A nice mix of rustic tannins with sweet and rather elegant fruit. Quite a distinctive and appealing style.
Cuisine write "Nothing amiss with Amisfield's current release. A languid silkiness characterises the texture; plums , spice and dried herb flavours are supported by rich tannins and superb acidity. Definitely a sleeper that will reward five years in the cellar." Another quality Amisfield product.

Normally $112. Only 150 six packs of this wine was made. "Attractively scented wine with delicate floral and cherry aromas. It has a toasty/savoury influence on the palate plus a slight “wild herbs” (or it it thyme?) character on the palate. A layered, complex wine from a good vintage. Ageing well but with potential." 93/100 Bob Campbell.
Rocky Knoll is in effect their first Grand Cru vineyard at Amisfield. It is a block within a block, delineated by its soil type, aspect and slope. It is planted to 100% Dijon clones and sits on an east/west oriented ridge with about 2/3 of the vines facing due south, away from the sun. The north facing zone, called zone 5, faces into the sun and yet is picked last reinforcing the fact that Pinot Noir quality is not directly related to heat accumulation. The soils are semi-arid, glacial moraine with large stones on the surface. These stones absorb sunlight during the day and re-release their heat at night. This in turn keeps the vines slightly warmer at night allowing for slightly higher respiration, which expresses itself in slightly lower acidity, higher colour intensity and riper, sweeter tannins at harvest. The 2006 is the first opportunity to make a single vineyard wine from this block since 2003 and they havent released another vintage after 2006 either. Nice to get a great deal on this top aged pinot noir.

Normally $43. Quintin, the owner thinks the 2009 is his best vintage since the world beating 2006 ( which was Trophy for Best Pinot Noir in the world at the London International Wine Show.) "The latest vintages are impressive. Grown in the Bannockburn and Pisa districts, and matured in French oak barriques." M.Cooper. The 2009 Growing season was an exceptional one in Central Otago, with perfect conditions for a small crop.
"Deep red colour with purple-red hues. On the nose you get red and dark cherry, black liquorice, musky oak and a hint of mushroom. The palate is full with ripe black cherry, plum, orange peel, cassis and mushroom with mouth caressing tannins and a lingering finish that won’t quit." Excellent top Central Pinot noir
