Also Michael Cooper writes "This vivacious bubbly, from a long-established Loire Valley producer, is made by the classic methode traditionnelle technique. Light lemon/green, with an eruption of small bubbles, it is fresh and lively, with good delicacy and depth. Very easy to enjoy, it offers plenty

Any Champagne houses would like to lay claim to the accolade of being the longest established house, but only one may do so in truth. And that house is Ruinart, a business established in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart. In reality there can be no older house; the Royal decree which permitted the transport of bottled wines (casks are of little use for the transport of sparkling wines) was only passed in 1728. The Ruinarts were not without connections when helpful advice with their new venture was needed; Nicolas' uncle was Dom Thierry Ruinart, close friend to Dom Perignon himself. In 1963 the whole business was sold to Moet & Chandon, and subsequently became part of LVMH, the luxury goods group ( who own Veuve Clicquot and Krug )
Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is smooth and rounded on the palate. A balanced wine with a beautiful luminous pale gold colour, enhanced by the elegance of the clear bottle. Great quality champagne.

Ruinart Rose, as with all Ruinart champagnes, is made with a high proportion of Chardonnay giving great finesse and elegance - so characteristic of Ruinart champagnes. Presented in an elegant 18th century style bottle, this champagne reveals such a fresh, distinctive, rose petal pink colour. It is a blend of 45 % Premier Cru Chardonnay and 55 % Premier Cru Pinot Noir of which 18 % vinified in red. The appearance is of orange-yellow, rose petal colour with very fine, profuse and sustained long-lasting bubbles. It has a nose which is very fine, subtle and fruity - small red berries such as redcurrant and blackberry dominate. A very intense classy wine.

Normally $275 The 2002 Dom Perignon is at first intensely floral, with perfumed jasmine that dominates the bouquet. With time in the glass the wine gains richness as the flavors turn decidedly riper and almost tropical. Ripe apricots, passion fruit and peaches emerge from this flashy, opulent Dom Perignon. The wine’s volume makes it approachable today, but readers in search of more complexity will want to cellar this for at least a few years to allow for some of the baby fat to drop off.Anticapated maturity 2012-2032. " 96/100 R.Parker
Extraordinarily firm, confident, intense nose. Definitely the savoury side of Dom. Nothing remotely sweet or fat - though it's as intense as a Montrachet. Wonderful quality of mousse - surely slightly less bubbly than it has been? More like a Montrachet with a bit of carbon dioxide laced into it than a typical champagne. Broad and long with a hint of orange peel. Great persistence. This already delivers but has such backbone and great acidity and light grip (only noticeable at the very end of the tasting experience) that it surely has a long life ahead of it. Really reaches every hidden cell of the palate. A very assured performance. LVMH at its very best?" 20/20 Jancis Robinson
