Rhone Valley

2007 Bonnefond Cote Rotie

"Youthful purple color. Sexy Asian spice and red berry aromas are complicated by smoked meat and incense. Darker berries are on display in the mouth, along with hints of black olive and sweet chewing tobacco. Finishes with good grip and a jolt of refreshingly bitter cherry pit. This is already beginning to show some complexity."88-91 Tanzer

2009 Autard Chateauneuf du Pape Ronde

"The outstanding 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cote Ronde has the oak well-concealed beneath a cascade of black fruits. An equal part blend of Grenache and Syrah from 60-year-old vines (with the Syrah enjoying malolactic fermentation in barrel and aging in new oak), this wine displays plenty of licorice, creme de cassis, blackberry, subtle spice and a heady dosage of Provencal herbs in a full-bodied, thick, juicy style that never loses its place of origin despite the modern oak treatment. Full-bodied and powerful, it comes close to rivaling the best La Cote Ronde I have tasted to date, the 2007. It will be best drunk over the next 10-15 years" 92-94/100 R.Parker

$79.99

2001 Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque

SOLD AS 6 BOTTLE ORIGINAL WINE CASE. (equivalent to $600/bottle)

Meaty and rich, with notes of Asian spices, espresso roast, creosote, blackberries, and cherries, the 2001 Cote Rotie La Turque is an earthy, powerful, tannic effort with a long, heady, rich finish, and crisper acids than the 2000. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following 20-25 years. 95-97/100 - RP

$3,600.00

2009 Autard Cotes du Rhone

Jean Paul Autard has run his family estate since the age of 17. The terroir at the Domaine Paul Autard is made up for the most part of sand and rounded shingles. It is situated between Courthezon and Chateauneuf du Pape. Using neither insecticides nor chemical fertillizers, Jean-paul Autard has an attitude resolutely turned towards a respect for balance in nature and biodiversity. The vines vary from 40 to 95 years old and the main grape varieties are Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvedre, and Muscardin for the reds.

$27.99

2001 Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve

SOLD AS 6 BOTTLE ORIGINAL WINE CASE (equivalent to $500/bottle)

The spectacular 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve (200 cases of a 95% Grenache/5% Syrah blend) is a monumental example of the appellation. This extraordinary offering boasts an opaque purple color as well as awesome aromatics consisting of ground pepper, blueberry and blackberry jam, and kirsch liqueur. It is full-bodied, with multiple layers, a seamless integration of acidity and tannin, and a finish that lasts over a minute. Despite its high alcohol (15.5%), it is surprisingly elegant. This wine is kept completely in old wood barriques prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. It comes from the same parcel as the Vieilles Vignes, but this particular section of the vineyard is a plot of 100-year old Grenache vines planted in a vein of sand that runs through what is otherwise a rocky vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025. 100/100 - RP

$3,000.00

2001 Guigal Cote Rotie La Landonne

SOLD AS 6 BOTTLE ORIGINAL WINE CASE. (equivalent to $600/bottle) The 2001 Cote Rotie La Landonne exhibits scents of new saddle leather, black truffles, melted road tar, vanilla, blackberries, and licorice in a primitive/Neanderthal style with huge tannin, intense concentration, and nearly mouth-searing firmness and toughness. Extremely powerful, rich, and backward, it will be drinkable between 2011-2030. 93-95/100 - RP

$3,600.00

2003 Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque

A pure aromatic smorgasbord is offered by the 2003 Cote Rotie La Turque, which has an amazing aromatic profile of espresso coffee interwoven with scorched earth, tar, truffle, incense, blackberry, bacon fat, and flowers. Powerful, thick flavors ooze across the palate with a viscous texture, amazing purity, and just enough acidity and tannin to give uplift and precision to this remarkable tour de force in winemaking. Of the 2003s, this is also approachable, but ideally 2-5 years of cellaring would be suggested, and the wine will evolve for at least 30 more years. 100/100 - RP

$1,200.00

2005 Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto

"Made in a completely different style, the colossal 2005 Hermitage Ex-Voto is pure power, muscle, and concentration. Its inky/purple color is accompanied by an extraordinary, precise nose of creme de cassis, smoke, charcoal, incense, and spring flowers. Full-bodied with outrageous concentration, good acidity, noble sweet tannin, and a 60-second finish, this wine requires 5-6 more years of bottle age, and should drink well for 30-50 years."95-98

$600.00

2003 Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline

The 2003 Cote Rotie La Mouline is by far the most delicate and elegant wine (11% Viognier is co-fermented with 89% Syrah). but the enormous aromatics of spring flowers intermixed with creme de cassis, black raspberry, mocha, caramel, and cola, and enormous full-bodied opulence and striking velvety, seamless texture make for one of the most memorable wines anyone could every drink. This wine should age effortlessly for 25-30 or more years. 100/100 - RP

$1,200.00

2007 Guigal Cotes du Rhone

Last cases in stock and elsewhere this sells at $27. Nicely aged. "The Rhone Valley's most successful producer continues to ratchet up the level of quality of his Cotes du Rhone cuvees, of which he produces hundreds of thousands of cases. Both Marcel Guigal and his son Philippe realize how important quality is and demonstrate that commitment in these lower level wines. They just get better and better. The 2007 Cotes du Rhone is his finest Cotes du Rhone to date, all from purchased juice. He and his son told me they go through thousands of samples in order to come up with this cuvee, which is based on 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 10% Mourvedre, all aged in tank. A deep ruby/purple wine with lots of cassis, kirsch, pepper, and even an intriguing floral note, the wine is medium to full-bodied , silky smooth, and a truly delicious, hedonistic and intellectually satisfying wine that is a remarkable bargain." 90/100 R.Parker. Brilliant Rhone buying from a great vintage.
