Nebbiolo ( Barolo is made from the nebbilo grape ) is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines in the world. Cordero is renowned for its fantastic value barolo - "Medium red with a hint of amber at the rim. The nose and palate hit all the Barolo food groups: strawberry, tobacco, cedar, camphor, mocha, marzipan, nuts and flowers, complicated by a light balsamic quality. Plush in the middle yet delicate for 2006 in spite of its considerable body. A very firmly built wine that finishes with big, sweet, broad tannins and lingering complexity" 90/100 Tanzer.

"Medium red with an amber edge. Very ripe, complex nose melds strawberry, cherry, earth and underbrush; one senses the soil here. Penetrating but harmonious acidity gives this perfumed, ripe wine an enticing light touch. The most tannic of these three 2006s but the tannins are sweet and horizontal. Complex and suave Barolo"92/100 Tanzer

"The 2007 Barolo Le Vigne presents a beguiling combination of explosive, ripe fruit and finessed silky tannins that make it a thrilling wine to taste, even at this stage in its development. Small red berries, minerals, crushed flowers, vanillin and sweet spices are woven together in a fabric of undescribable elegance. The French oak has never been better balanced, while the vibrant, crystalline finish leaves a lasting impression. The 2007 Le Vigne has all the potential to develop into a spectacular wine?actually, it already is. This is a totally stunning bottle of Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027."96/100 Parker

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape that is responsible for the great wines of Piedmont's Langhe and Monferrato hills: Barolo and Barbaresco. These are the most coveted of Italian wines among international collectors. Notoriously difficult to cultivate, Nebbiolo tends to be planted in the warmest hillside sites, where drainage is excellent. "This is a very strong set of entry-level wines from Luciano Sandrone, one of Piedmont's top growers. In a region full of outspoken, colourful producers, Sandrone remains soft-spoken and rather shy, but his wines speak for themselves rather eloquently.

Proprietor Manuel Marchetti describes 2006 as a warm year without too many challenges. The Nebbiolo harvest took place in mid-October. The wines were fermented in cement for 45 days and subsequently spent two years in oak prior to being bottled without clarification or filtration. Marchetti’s 2006s show lovely balance and deliver exceptional quality for the money. "The 2006 Barolo Brunate blossoms on the palate with layers of dark fruit, menthol, spices and minerals, all of which come together with a classic, ethereal weight that is quite appealing. The tannins are formidable, but there is more than enough richness and depth in the fruit to provide balance. The finish is surprisingly round and harmonious at this stage but I expect the wine to close down on itself over the coming months. Marcarini’s 2006 Barolo Brunate is simply terrific. Proprietor Manuel Marchetti says that his plot in Brunate sees wider temperature fluctuations than his vineyard in La Serra, which in large part accounts for the differences between his two Barolos. Drink to 2026." 93/100 Parker

The 2006 Barolo Cannubi presents a more delicate expression of Nebbiolo than the decidedly virile Costa Grimaldi. As it sits in the glass the wine displays wonderful inner perfume, with pretty suggestions of menthol, red berries and spices, all buttressed by silky tannins. Sweet, sensual and enveloping all the way, the Cannubi exudes poise, harmony and sheer class. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. 93/100 parker
Over the last few years Einaudi has settled into an approach that successfully combines elements of modern and traditional approaches. In 2006 the Nebbiolo harvest took place during the first half of October. The Barolos were fermented in stainless steel, and aged first in French oak and subsequently in larger, neutral casks. Einaudi is among the properties in Piedmont moving in a direction that increasingly favors large oak over small French oak barrels.

The name of this estate is derived from the name of its founder, Cesare Pio, who set up this now long established family business in 1881. It remains in the family, with Pio Boffa, the great grandson of the founder, at the helm. The overall ethos is one of minimal intervention. They own almost 45 ha of vineyards, a large holding for the region which is dominated by small family firms owning small plots of land. This barolo is from a family-owned site near Serralunga d’Alba. Just released after 4 years of ageing
"Pio Cesare and the 2007 vintage marry beautifully to produce a layered, opulent, textured, rich wine that is bursting with zesty red fruit, sassy spice, leather and toasted
espresso bean. What really sets this wine apart is the
dense smoothness of its texture."95/100 Wine Enthusiast

"The estate’s 2006 Barolo Ornato expresses the power and masculinity of Serralunga in a rich, opulent style packed with dark fruit. The Ornato shows marvelous concentration and vibrancy, with added layers of dimension from the French oak. It is a fascinating wine to contrast with the straight Barolo, as each of these 2006s reveals a different shade of nuance. There is a marvelous intensity to the fruit, along with substantial grip on the finish. Menthol, tar and smoke are some of the notes that remain on the close. The Ornato is aged in a mix of 70% cask and 30% French oak barrique. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. "94/100 Parker

arrives first half of 2012
"The 2007 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello comes across as cool, inward and reticent. In other words, very Ovello. It is one of the most complete of these 2007s, as the freshness of the site works to counter some of the more extroverted qualities of the year. The Ovello possesses stunning depth in its fruit, expressive inner perfume and firm yet refined tannins that provide the backdrop for all of the elements to come together beautifully in the glass. The Ovello seems to combine the best qualities of the Montestefano and Montefico. The huge, building finish provides a glimpse as to what awaits those who can exercise a measure of patience. This is a stunning Barbaresco on all counts. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032"95/100 Parker

"The estate's 2004 Barolo Le Coste/Mosconi is a big, fat wine loaded with scorched earth, tar, smoke and dark fruit. Made in a powerful, brooding style, this expansive fruit-driven Barolo isn't the last word on subtlety but it is awfully hard to resist. Parusso owns the vineyards in Le Coste and rents three parcels in Mosconi. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. "92/100 Parker
