Another variety that is seldom seen in NZ as a single varietal. 93/100 from Bob Campbell who writes "Moderately dense sweet fruit with a fine-grained texture. Dark berry, licorice, chocolate and mineral characters interwoven with classy oak. A powerful and youthful red with great potential." Also raymond Chan writes
"Cabernet Franc has a softer, less extreme expression than Cabernet Sauvignon and unblended can be less than complete. This bottling shows the potential character worth attaining. Saturated black purple-red, vibrant and youthful in colour. The nose is somewhat shy and locked up in its rawness, but the beauty of its floral fragrance of red fruits is clear. On the palate, this has lovely, lifted red and dark berry fruits framed within a seriously constructed palate with very fine-grained tannins. There is an in-built gentleness, with soft acidity and subtle oaking. A wine of elegance and finesse still to emerge. 10-12+ years. 100% Cabernet Franc from ‘Zone 2’ Kidnappers block in the Gimblett Gravels, Aged 18 months in 12.5% new French oak barriques. 200 dozen made. 18.5+/20 " Raymond Chan- senior wine judge. Also 95/100 from Wine Orbit Magazine.
