Peregrine, Central Otago, New Zealand
The 2009 growing season was long with warm days with cool nights providing perfect conditions for producing a classic Central Otago Pinot Gris. The fruit is 100% Central Otago sourced from the Cromwell basin sub-region.
All the fruit was carefully hand harvested, de-stemmed and crushed prior to gentle pressing. A portion of the fruit was left in the press with skins and juice together over night to help extract varietal character. The resulting juice was cool stainless steel fermented to retain fruit character. The wine was left on yeast lees for three months to help with mouth feel and complexity.
The 2009 Peregrine Pinot Gris overflows with ripe pear, peach, mango, grapefruit and has an underlying steely minerality. It is well balanced and mouth filling with great persistence.
Lovely drinking now, this wine will continue to develop over the next few years.
